News: Straight hooked gouge LARGE
We now make our Straight hooked gouge in three different sizes. Long, Short and Large.
Description Straight hooked gouge large:
A useful and fun complement to our smaller versions of the Straight hooked gouge: “short” and “long”. This “large” version is of course a more powerful tool with its longer handle and more stable forging.
The development of the tool, as well as the inspiration to produce it, has been done in collaboration with Alex Yerks, a professional craftsman who is passioned about his work to develop the kuksa carving. Both in his own work and with students.
The tool is particularly suitable for working with kuksa / kåsa / guksi / guksie. You quickly learn the special turning technique needed to work effectively with the cupped edge shape.
Total length: approx. 44 cm
Edge width: approx. 40 mm
The handle is made of fire-treated wood, in this case ash. Forged from tool steel and carefully heat-treated in controlled furnaces.
In the old days, this type of tool was called Bent gouge, you might also call versions of it Swan neck gouge or Spoon gouge. We like to call our version Straight hooked gouge (large).
Description Straight hooked gouge short and long:
For the versions long and short, the cutting edge is the same. It is only the length of the tool that differs. Both of them work perfectly to dig out material and making spoons, ladles, or small bowls.
Straight hooked gouge long:
Total length: 22 cm, Steel length: 13 cm, Handles length: 9 cm, the edge form: diameter 20 mm, the edge width: 20 mm
Straight hooked gouge short:
Total length: 16 cm, Steel length: 8 cm, Handles length: 8 cm, the edge form: diameter 20 mm, the edge width: 20 mm
The bevel shape is expressed in a diameter (mm) and an approximate width (mm). The bevel shape is part of a full circle. The number that the gouge is marked with is the diameter of this circle. The width is measured across the gouge.
